A Midsummer Nights Dream, by William Shakespeare.
A Midsummer Nights Dream was Suzannah's year 3 university major project.
This costume has been designed and made for a 17th Century take for a theatrical opera performance "A Midsummer Nights Dream". Oberon, the king of the Fairies is a mystical and magical creature always lurking in the shadows of the forest. Whilst this costume has a traditional cut for the 17th Century, due to Oberon being a fictional character there was room for a more contemporary impression when deciding the textile, fabric and colours of the costume. This costume/character was chosen to be taken into construction after designing a selection of 6 characters from the performance.

“A Midsummer Nights Dream” Witten by William Shakespeare is one of Shakespeare’s most iconic stories. This story was transformed into a theatrical play after it was written in around 1590. This play combines historically accurate characters as well as mystical fairies and forest creatures. Most of the play is set within the forest, where young Athenian lovers are taken on a magical path of love, misfortune and mystery. Fairy creatures cast mischievous spells tricking the minds of the Athenian people as well as the mechanicals who are actors trying to put on a play for the Duke of Athens and his wife Hippolyta.
